Help us to SING FOR A CURE in
2023 with MEN ALOUD!
Dear Friends & Supporters,
As you might be aware, our founding artistic director Jonathon Welch AM was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late August and is about to start his cancer treatment journey on Dec1, 2022 with a radical prostatectomy.
Thanks to a free PSA test, Jonathon's cancer has been detected early and is contained to his prostate at present.
He considers himself to indeed be one of the lucky ones, as he had no symptoms and he was fortunate to have a great GP who ensures he's tested annually.
But, Jonathon is now one of 240,000 men living with prostate cancer and joins 24,000 men who have been diagnosed in Australia this year, and far too many men don't know about the easy, free PSA that can save their lives.
And for many men - it's too late by the time they are tested if they leave it too long.
At Play It Forward, we want to help support Jonathon and all the men who are bravely living with their cancer journey, and also help to raise awareness of the issues around prostate cancer by getting more men to sing together, and in turn feel supported through our MEN ALOUD! programs.
To this end - we will be creating a project in 2023 for men to come and join Jonathon and our MEN ALOUD! choir programs, currently in Melbourne and Brisbane and also create a new choir in Sydney - to perform at SING FOR A CURE events during Prostate Cancer Awareness month in September 2023 that will in turn, then raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
We have established a fundraising campaign with the support of the Australian Cultural Fund - where 100% of donations made will come back to Play It Forward to help us run the MEN ALOUD choirs and invite other men to participate in our SING FOR A CURE project.
