Dr Jonathon Welch AM, celebrated singer and conductor of the award-winning Choir of Hard Knocks will perform for the first time on the Sunshine Coast and conduct the inaugural ‘Absolutely Everybody Sunshine Coast Choir’.

This inspiring concert in celebration of Mental Health Week will also showcase Brisbane singer and conductor Melissa Gill and the School of Hard Knocks Queensland arts programs: the Absolutely Everybody Brisbane Choir, Rhythm of Life Music Theatre, Word on the Street creative writing and StreetBeat, a junk percussion group.

Funds raised will help support the School of Hard Knocks, Queensland in delivering arts programs that help build positive physical and mental wellbeing for those who are marginalised or disadvantaged.

This October, as part of Queensland Mental Health Week 2017, the School of Hard Knocks is excited to head to the Sunshine Coast, and we invite you to join our un-auditioned project choir—the inaugural ‘Absolutely Everybody’ Sunshine Coast Choir.

This is a ’not-to-be-missed’ opportunity to work with and be conducted by the Choir Man himself, Dr Jonathon Welch. Registration provides two full days of workshops/rehearsals and the chance to experience Jonathon’s inspirational teaching and passion for choral singing.

You will learn new skills and make lifetime friends as you take this exciting journey, which will culminate with a final rehearsal and sound check on performance day, and a magical Sunday afternoon performance at The Events Centre, Caloundra.

Members of this choir will be wearing a special souvenir t-shirt for the performance, with plain long black pants and shoes. There is a charge of $25 for the T-shirt and you will need to order and pay for your T-Shirt when you register.

Due to ill health, Richard Gill unfortunately has to withdraw from the Melbourne International Singers Festival. Richard very much regrets not being able to proceed and wishes all participants a rewarding and enjoyable Festival.

Of course, we all wish Richard a speedy recovery and we are hoping that he will be able to join us in 2018 for our 9th Melbourne International Singers Festival as our Guest Conductor.

Join us as we end 2016 with a concert of inspiring and uplifting gospel, opera and popular classics that celebrate the true spirit of Christmas – courage, joy and love

Hand In Hand will feature two of Australia’s great legends of opera – Liane Keegan, contralto, and John Bolton Wood AM, baritone, together with members of XL ARTS, the Hallelujah Gospel Chorus conducted by Dr Kathleen McGuire, THECHO!R and the massed ‘Absolutely Everybody’ choirs under the direction of Dr Jonathon Welch AM with the fabulous Footscray Yarraville City Band conducted by Phillipa Edwards.

Funds raised will help support the School of Hard Knocks new women’s and men’s choir programs, No Excuses! and Men Aloud, singing out against family violence!

As part of our Melbourne International Singers Festival we are proud to present:

FESTIVAL FINALE “PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ”

Saving the very best until last, it is with great anticipation we await the return of the King of Contemporary Choral music, Dr Kirby Shaw from USA, featuring in our Finale Festival Concert “Puttin’ on the Ritz” on Monday 13th June at 2.30pm in the fabulous Deakin Edge Theatre.

A brilliant composer and arranger of more than 3,000 choral works selling over 20 million copies, Dr Shaw will swing our 300 voice massed festival chorus through many of his own stunning arrangements. This concert will also showcase many of our festival choirs including THECHO!R, Divine Divas of Sunbury, Vox Harmony City of Launceston Choir, Voices of Casey, Latrobe Valley Community Choir and Western Health Singers plus individual singers accompanied by our maestro pianist, Adam Przewlocki.
