The School of Hard Knocks is proud to present Australia’s most exciting singers festival for choirs & individuals for another huge year in 2016.

Friday 10 June – Monday 13 June 2016 (Queen’s Birthday Weekend)
Deakin Edge, Federation Square plus other venues

Standard Registration Adult  $189
  Concession*  $169

*Concession rate applicable to student and pension concession card holders

Note: Register your choir for the festival and SAVE. If you are bringing ten or more singers from your choir, your conductor and accompanist may register for free.

 

Masterclass with Dr Kirby Shaw                            $500 per choir

1 hour choir workshop with Kirby Shaw during MISF (no limit on number of singers)

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

We are thrilled to announce the legendary master of popular, jazz and swing choral music, Dr Kirby Shaw, is back by popular demand in 2016, with his extraordinary workshops and masterclasses. During the festival, Kirby will also be conducting an entire concert program of his own fabulous swing and jazz arrangements in ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’.

Singers and choirs will also have the opportunity to participate in fabulous vocal and technical workshops with internationally acclaimed professionals, including Dr Jonathon Welch AM and Dr Kathleen McGuire and have the opportunity to participate in two of the School of Hard Knocks amazing extended original works:

 

 

 

  • STREET REQUIEM – in memory of those who have died innocently on our streets.
  • No Excuses! (for women only) – singing out against domestic violence.

Melbourne International Singers Festival is open to all community & school choirs and individual singers with wonderful opportunities to sing in the festival showcase concerts and massed choirs!

During the festival, choirs also have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with Dr Kirby Shaw in a one hour MASTERCLASS. Limited spaces are available, so we encourage you to register as soon as possible for this fantastic opportunity.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND AND WHAT’S INCLUDED?

CHOIRS, INDIVIDUAL SINGERS, CONDUCTORS, COMPOSERS, ACCOMPANISTS & ANYONE WHO LOVES TO SING!

From Friday evening until Monday afternoon, enjoy a weekend filled with workshops, rehearsals, performances, fantastic learning experiences, networking and friendship.

Festival participants enjoyed working with international conductors, composers and arrangers over the festival weekend in some of Australia’s finest venues.

Festival workshops & events included:

  • Glorious performance of Rutter’s Gloria in St Paul’s Cathedral,conducted by Dr Kathleen McGuire
